Futsal is a variant of football (soccer) mostly played indoors and on a hard court. It is generally considered a version of five-a-side football, as most of the rules of football apply, but the tactics differ because of the much smaller number of players.
Futsal was developed in 1930 as a team game similar to football which could be played indoor or outdoor, and originally intended to be played on basketball courts. Unlike football, futsal allows unlimited substitutions and plays with a smaller, harder, low-bounce ball, which favours ball control and passing in small spaces, leading to a general view that futsal is a more technical and creative sport. As of now, futsal is not a sport at the Olympics or Paralympics.
Hong Kong Football Association
The futsal events at the 9th Asia Pacific Deaf Games will be co-organised with the Hong Kong Football Association, who not only organise football events, but are also in charge of futsal events in Hong Kong. They have been running futsal league competitions for most of the 2010s and also organise events in promoting this variation of football in Hong Kong.
